What is Access Control?

Access control allows you to monitor who can come and go from your buildings, and what times they can access them. It can even control who has access to certain areas of the building. This control comes from using credentials such as a card, keypads, or mobile credentials.

Maybe you have an apartment complex that is half finished, and you want to restrict who can enter the clean and finished apartments, or you have a small business and only want a handful of people to be able to open the storefront; regardless of the scale of your building, access control is vital to maintaining the safety of your building.

This is where we come in. Technegydd Communications can install and maintain Brivo, Honeywell, Kantech, and RBH Access Control Technologies. We are also continuously expanding and upgrading to meet the needs of our clients.

There is no “one size fits all” access control system. Each technology offers different benefits.

Some of the technologies offered are not cloud-based systems, though many are shifting towards that. The limit of using a non-cloud-based system is that if there is a power outage or the computer that runs the system goes down, you will no longer be able to program or control your access control. If the computer fails, all the saved data goes with it.

While Technegydd Communications is a licensed reseller for most companies listed in this article, our team highly recommends using Brivo because of its ongoing updates. At their most basic package, Brivo offers things like event tracking, user and credential management, facility lockdown, and video surveillance integration.

In lay terms, you can have an app or cloud-based program to track an event in the building. Credential management allows employees or tenants to have their own apps to access the building. The benefit of mobile credentials is that someone can remove the credentials quickly. “Mobile Credentials” are under the same program that allows a phone to tap to pay.

RBH Access Control Systems is a standalone access control system. It doesn’t require a monthly subscription because it is not a cloud-based system.

Kantech offers mobile credentials, Bluetooth credentials, and a standalone system. It also provides an application to link intercoms for ease of property management.

The end of life for many Honeywell Access Control technologies was 2022. “End of life” means replacement parts are no longer offered if something fails. But if the equipment still works, then Technegydd Communications can help maintain these systems.

Within the umbrella of access control, Technegydd Communications also offers intercom options. We are installers for ButterflyMX  and MyDoorView, and each offers its own benefits to help monitor and control who can access your building.

Again, there is no one-size-fits-all. If you’d like a consultation to understand what would work best for your building, please contact our expert.
